WHY DANCE The body is a guide, a resource of abundant wisdom, and our homes. Each time we greet the dance floor, we have an opportunity to meet something new within ourselves. Through dance, there is potential for transformative healing, empowerment, trust, and a deepening into love for ourselves & others. This is part of why over the lifespan of human existence, dance has been vital to culture and community. This container offers space and support for full, embodied self expression (that does not pose risk of harm to self or others.) This is a place: - to remember, feel, connect with a deeper sense of being. - to play with personal edges. - to work with difficult feelings like shame, grief, heartache etc. so that they can alchemize through the body’s innate intelligence. - to embrace queer expression. - reconnect with yourself as a part of nature. - to embrace sensuality & sexuality. - to create, imagine. - to face oneself, each other, fears, insecurities, and the cringe. Discounted for BIPOC & Queer folks. $5 INFO Every third Wednesday of the month. 15 minute welcome ritual, 60 minute dance, 15 min closing ritual Age 18+ Comfy clothes to sweat in, barefoot/ socks in dance space No phones in the sanctuary / dance space. BACKGROUND Emerson Orca (they/them) self identifies as a queer, multi-hyphenated creator, space holder, and practitioner of healing arts. They are a recent graduate of the 7 month long PHDJ program led by Tasha Blank of NYC’s The Get Down. Through this course, yoga teacher training, and years of personal experience on dance floors, they have accessed tools for leading nervous systems through embodied dance journeys.
